Mom goes to business school

I have always wondered why some women stop everything in their lives to care for their children. Wondered as well how women continue to grow in their career with young children who need full attention.

What I have realized over the years, having 2 kids and still continuing my work is that nothing is easy and nothing is difficult. The decisions taken with the current situation in hand fretting over it before the situation occurs is futile.

I never associated with either a complete career-focused woman or a stay-at-home person. People who are really aware of their inner thoughts and are absolutely sure where their loyalties lie are blessed. But there are numerous women out there like me, who are walking on a thin line trying to step foot on both the parallels or at-least thinking to try. We want both the time to care for the kids, time to give uninterrupted attention, and move up the ladder.

I realized how the perspectives and thought process changes from women to men after I had my first child. I and my husband were college sweethearts and got married after many years of dating and we were very competitive trying to out-beat each other during university which brought us close together. We still have that competitive streak for many things and keep pace with ourselves. But when we had our child my instinct was to throw everything and be with my son while my husband's instinct was to work even harder with another entry for our future.

I still continued to work through my second child as well but did as much as the job entailed just a little bit more and drew my boundaries for time and work. There were many things I wanted to read, many things I wanted to upgrade in my profile but that would mean the time with children is reduced significantly and so never attempted at all.

At the start of this year, I took a resolve to try heading towards my goal of doing an MBA and moving into management strategy, at-least give an attempt at GMAT with the stretch goal of getting admission. 2020 has turned out to be a different year where our plans went kaput. But I went on a studying streak gave my GMAT in 1.5 months got my applications and essays in 2–3 weeks time post GMAT and now am writing with a couple of admissions in hand from great business schools.

It felt really great to reach a new year's resolution. Now I told my elder son who is going to start Primary school next year that mommy is also going to school. He is excited that we both get to study. Though there is underlying nervousness about working on my program with 2 kids I am ready to take that dive.
