Day 2: Explore Lima’s colonial heritage on a half-day immersive city tour

This morning, embark on a half-day tour of Lima’s historical center in the company of an expert local guide. Take a private transfer to the Plaza Mayor, where the skyline is dominated by imposing colonial buildings, including the Government Palace, City Hall, Cathedral and Archbishop’s Palace. Continue to the San Francisco Monastery and step inside Casa Aliaga, a house built in 1535, making it as old as Lima itself. Seventeen generations later, the house is still owned by the Aliaga family and retains its ancient magic, with a grand wooden staircase leading up to elegant salons richly decorated with colonial furniture. Afterwards, in Pueblo Libre, visit the Larco Herrera Museum, housed in an 18th century colonial mansion and home to the country’s most extensive collection of pre-Columbian art, as well as huaco pottery, gold and silver pieces with semiprecious stones, and erotic art pieces.

Day 3: Experience Andean glory in the Sacred Valley of the Incas

After a wholesome breakfast, transfer to Lima airport for your flight to Cusco and onwards to the the “Sacred Valley of the Incas”, where the famous white corn is cultivated for export among a captivating Andean landscape of agricultural terraces and archaeological sites. The mild climate, dramatic snow-capped mountains, flowering meadows, and lush green hills combine to make the valley a prime adventure destination.

Nestled in the breathtaking Andes mountains at the foot of the Sacred Valley, Sol y Luna ties together the traditions of ancient Peru with its vibrant contemporary culture. Each rustic casita is made using local stone and textiles and features a private terrace or plunge pool.

On the other side of the Urubamba Valley, take in the snow-capped peaks of the Vilcabamba and Urubamba mountain ranges, before continuing to the town of Maras, which grew in importance in the 17th century due to the exploitation and commercialization of the salineras or saltpans. Cross the extensive Maras Pampas, where people farm the land and rear cattle and sheep, and learn about the impressive stone facades of the ancient houses. Afterwards, savor a picnic lunch in an exclusive tented area prepared by our team, before taking part in a special healing ceremony to make traditional offerings to Pachamama, or Mother Earth. Embrace the unique sounds of pre-Hispanic instruments with an open heart in this moving collective prayer as you share in the culture of the indigenous people — an incredibly deep and authentic cross-cultural interaction.
