An Ancient Giant

He stayed behind to defend the land

The gravel crunching underfoot
Morning dew shimmering like diamonds
A dove singing to welcome in the new day
I slowly take the twisting path
Past the flower meadow
Taking my time to enjoy the peace
Every day is much the same
I am on my way to meet with him
The wind softly blows through my hair
I know that I will see him soon
The same exact spot day after day
He stands in the brilliant sunlight
Where the trees meet the fields
Watching over this lush land
The protector of creatures
The big and the small
I slowly approach him
My arms outstretched
Into a warm embrace, I am pulled
Softly speaking in my ear
He lets me know I am loved
I may have shaped this land
But his kind heart has helped us all
An ordinary man
But when he is near
Everything comes to life
His passion is contagious
His dedication is unmatched
As we part our separate ways
Back down the winding lane
I look back one more time
And see his large form
Slowly fade into the trees
A gentle giant ever strong
An ancient God living among men
